What is happening at 17 DPO?

At 17 DPO your period is roughly three days late for a typical luteal phase, and you are now well past the point where most cycles would have started bleeding. A luteal phase stretching this far is uncommon in a cycle that is not pregnant.

If you are pregnant, hCG has been rising for well over a week and a home test should read positive clearly. If a test is still negative at 17 DPO, the most common explanations are ovulation that happened later than expected, which makes your true DPO lower, or a period delayed by another cause.

Emotionally this is often the hardest stretch, because you are past your period, possibly still seeing a negative, and you want an answer. A retest and an honest look at your own ovulation signs usually clarifies more than another symptom search will.

Should you take a pregnancy test at 17 DPO?

At 17 DPO a home test is very likely to be accurate if you are pregnant, because hCG has had well over a week to build since implantation. A clear positive is dependable. A negative at 17 DPO with no period points more toward later ovulation or another cause of a late period than toward a test missing a pregnancy. Retest in 2 to 3 days with first morning urine, and if negatives persist, check in with a clinician. Only a pregnancy test or a clinician can confirm pregnancy.

What your BBT may show at 17 DPO

By 17 DPO, a chart that has stayed above the coverline this long is meaningful, because in a non pregnant cycle temperatures almost always drop and a period arrives before now. Three days late with temperatures still elevated suggests progesterone remains high, which is consistent with early pregnancy. If instead your temperature has dropped, your period is likely on its way. A chart is a strong hint at this stage, and a test is the confirmation.

Common questions at 17 DPO

Can you still be pregnant with a negative test at 17 DPO?

It is possible but less likely than earlier in the wait, because hCG is usually well detectable by 17 DPO. The more common reasons for a negative at 17 DPO with no period are ovulating later than you estimated or a period delayed by another cause. Retest in 2 to 3 days, and see a clinician if negatives continue.

How many days late is 17 DPO?

For a typical 14 day luteal phase, 17 DPO is about three days past your expected period. Because luteal phase length varies from person to person, your own late count may differ slightly, but three days without a period at 17 DPO is past the point where most cycles would have started.

17 DPO still high temps and no period, am I pregnant?

Temperatures still above your coverline three days past your expected period suggest progesterone is staying high, which a continuing pregnancy does. It is one of the more encouraging charting signs at 17 DPO. It is still a hint, not a diagnosis, so confirm with a home test, since only a test or a clinician can tell you for sure.
